Your weight has been important since the moment you were born. Being overweight can mean more than just physical appearance issues. It can also lead to certain diseases and aches and pains that you have never had before. Being overweight and obese may increase the risk of many health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. If you are pregnant, excess weight may lead to short- and long-term health problems for you and your child. Gaining a few kilos during the year may not seem like a big deal. But these can add up over time.

Overweight effected Chronic Health Conditions

There are a host of issues that can crop up from having that extra weight including, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, Fatty Liver Disease, Kidney Problems and Pregnancy problems. A slew of chronic conditions that cause pain is also more common in people who are overweight and obese. Those conditions include arthritis, depression, fibromyalgia and back pain. Obesity is associated with physiological disability, in particular joint and chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers.

Degenerative osteoarthritis and cartilage breakdown along with musculoskeletal pain have been reported as part of the disability spectrum related to obesity. These conditions significantly reduce a person’s ability to exercise, and in addition, chronic pain has been reported to negatively influence a person’s quality of life.

Overweight Linked Psychological and Developmental Issues

Apart from these medical conditions, there are a lot of psychological pressures from being overweight because, as a society, being thin is promoted more often than being overweight. This leads to social humiliation for most overweight and obese people, and this causes unnecessary bad self-image and self-esteem issues. For children who are overweight, there may be a host of developmental issues and also inability to participate in several activities might lead to depression. In the last 30 years, a growing number of kids and teenagers have developed weight problems. Today, 1 out of 3 kids and teens between the ages of 2 and 19 are overweight or obese. Also, overweight children are more likely to become overweight or obese as adults, with the same disease risks.

There is a clear association between obesity and pain -- with higher rates of pain identified in the heaviest individuals. If you are considered to be overweight or obese, then losing as little as 5 percent of your body weight may lower your risk for several diseases. Effective treatments supported by medical experts and trainers are available in renowned health clinics to help with weight loss and confidence gain.
